As Christian Seventh Day Adventist’s we believe that the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem bagen with King Artaxerxes decree in the year 457BC.
Biblical author Uriah Smith stated: “The years of Artexerxes reign are among the most easily established dates of history. The Canon of Ptolemy, with it’s list of kings and astronomical observations, the Greek Olympiads, and allusions in Greek history to Persian affairs all combine to place the 7th year of Artexerxes at 457BC” (The prophecies of Daniel and the revelation, p208, Uriah Smith).
Let’s look at the Bible text found in the book of Ezra which mentions this incident;
Ezr 7:12; “Artaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, a scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect peace, and at such a time.
I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his priests and Levites, in my realm, which are minded of their own freewill to go up to Jerusalem, go with thee.
 Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seven counsellors, to enquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thine hand;
And to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,
And all the silver and gold that thou canst find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem:
That thou mayest buy speedily with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meat offerings and their drink offerings, and offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.
And whatsoever shall seem good to thee, and to thy brethren, to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do after the will of your God.
The vessels also that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, those deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.
And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king’s treasure house.
And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
Unto an hundred talents of silver, and to an hundred measures of wheat, and to an hundred baths of wine, and to an hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.
Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?
Also we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.
And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
And whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed speedily upon him, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.”
We must understand that before this decree there were two others given which helped and started the process of COMPLETE restoration.
The apostate, Desmond Ford a former Christian Seventh Day Adventist has stated;
“The problem is that the Adventist case for 1844 asserts that the decree for rebuilding Jerusalem is predicated in Daniel 9:25 on the decree of Artaxerxes in Ezra 7. But Ezra 7 says nothing whatsoever about rebuilding Jerusalem! Nor does any other passage attribute the building of the city to Artaxerxes or to Ezra. The whole Adventist case for 1844 depends upon missing evidence!”
The confusion is that Desmond Ford [along with a few other Adventist “scholars”] does not understand that the first two decrees began the PROCESS of RESTORATION which was finalized in this final decree. These other two decrees had a part in the restoration of Jerusalem, as they commissioned a return of the Jews to Jerusalem and rebuilding to start. It’s really that simple.
As Adventist Christians we believe that one of the rules of Biblical interpretation is, “context controls meaning” and of course any Scripture taken out of context is a “pre-text”.
So we must let the WHOLE BIBLE interprete itself, a Law of Adventist Christians. It was this final decree that allowed for religious law making and tax immunity to the priests. Thus, the PROCESS was complete.
God works out many things through PROCESS. He creates circumstances for things to UNFOLD. Most all prophetic fulfillment’s happen through a PROCESS. We get glimpses of the end result. In a sense it is through this process that God teaches us to LISTEN to Him and to develope a RELATIONSHIP with Him.

Being a Seventh Day Adventist Christian I always get asked the question regarding early Adventist author, Ellen G. White; “Wasn’t Ellen White a plagiarist?”
I find that instead of searching out her writings for themselves, most Christians are too relaxed in their own minds about their conclusions regarding what I call, “easy religion”. Religion that doesn’t really ask them to seperate from the world or it’s ways. That being said, let’s take a brief look at the question of plagiarism.
Did you know that modern “scholars” have “proven” that most all of the Christian Bible is a work of plagiarism? Take the flood story for instance.
In Sumerian clay tablets dating from the third millennium BCE there is an account of a great flood whose hero is called Ziusudra. There is also a flood story in the second millennium BCE Babylonian legend of Gilgamish. In the Babylonian legend, preserved in much greater detail than that of Sumeria, the hero is named Utnapishtim. All these pre-date the Mosaic texts that have been found.
What about the fact that “word for word” passages are found in Isaiah and Micah? Who copied who? Did Isaiah copy Micah or visa versa?
And what of “Mithraism”? There is much speculation that Christian beliefs were influenced by Mithraic belief.
The worshippers of Mithras held strong beliefs in a celestial heaven and an infernal hell. They believed that the benevolent powers of the god would sympathize with their suffering and grant them the final justice of immortality and eternal salvation in the world to come. They looked forward to a final day of judgement in which the dead would resurrect, and to a final conflict that would destroy the existing order of all things to bring about the triumph of light over darkness.
Modern scholars have found many of the Old Testament stories in religions that pre-date Jewish faith. Some found in ancient Egypt and Sumeria. So what does it all mean?
My point is simple, if people want to believe that early Adventist Ellen G. White was not inspired by God to write what she wrote they can,… but remember, the same arguements that people use against her can be used against the entire Bible itself!
Me, along with thousands of Adventist Christians have gained strength, inspiration, and a closer walk with God through the study of her writings. Just as people try to find condradictions in Scripture people search for “hooks of doubt” to hang their hats on when reading Ellen White.
Ellen White wrote in the “Steps to Christ”:
“There are many things apparently difficult or obscure, which God will make plain and simple to those who thus seek an understanding of them. But without the guidance of the Holy Spirit we shall be continually liable to wrest the Scriptures or to misinterpret them. There is much reading of the Bible that is without profit and in many cases a positive injury. When the word of God is opened without reverence and without prayer; when the thoughts and affections are not fixed upon God, or in harmony with His will, the mind is clouded with doubts; and in the very study of the Bible, skepticism strengthens. The enemy takes control of the thoughts, and he suggests interpretations that are not correct. Whenever men are not in word and deed seeking to be in harmony with God, then, however learned they may be, they are liable to err in their understanding of Scripture, and it is not safe to trust to their explanations. Those who look to the Scriptures to find discrepancies, have not spiritual insight. With distorted vision they will see many causes for doubt and unbelief in things that are really plain and simple.”
“Disguise it as they may, the real cause of doubt and skepticism, in most cases, is the love of sin. The teachings and restrictions of God’s word are not welcome to the proud, sin-loving heart, and those who are unwilling to obey its requirements are ready to doubt its authority. In order to arrive at truth, we must have a sincere desire to know the truth and a willingness of heart to obey it. And all who come in this spirit to the study of the Bible will find abundant evidence that it is God’s word, and they may gain an understanding of its truths that will make them wise unto salvation.” SC.111.002
So in conclusion…it is up to you and God alone as to what course you will take regarding Truth. Now let us look at another issue regarding early Protestantism and the Church today.
So many people today watch all the TV specials about the “life of Jesus”. We hear all sorts of things. We hear that Jesus was married. We hear that he did not really resurrect from the dead.
I watched part of a special yesturday that claimed that the apostle Paul was really working for the Roman government [Paul being a Roman citizen] and that his writings where plagiarized, taken from wanna-be massiahs that Rome had arrested and killed.
It claimed that Paul was doing this to help Rome get control of those “fanatic Christian groups”. The funny thing about these TV documenteries is that they always have “proof” about their claims.
What are you looking for? Sister Ellen White has stated; “While God has given ample evidence for faith, He will never remove all excuse for unbelief. All who look for hooks to hang their doubts upon will find them. And those who refuse to accept and obey God’s word until every objection has been removed, and there is no longer an opportunity for doubt, will never come to the light.” – Great Controversy, p.527
Wow! Is this you? Are you looking for excuses to disobey God’s word? Perhaps regarding the Sabbath issue?
Many are looking for all the negative aspects and rumors about another persons Christian faith. The Human nature loves to argue and justify itself. Here is something to consider; Martin Luther, founder of the entire protestant movement has much “dirt” written about him. Especially some of his comments about the Jews.
In On the Jews and Their Lies, written in 1543 three years before his death, Luther recommends that Jews be deprived of money, civil rights, religious teaching, and education, and that they be forced to labor on the land, or else be expelled from Germany and possibly killed.
He refers to Jews as “a brood of vipers and children of the devil” (from Matthew 12:34), “miserable, blind, and senseless”, “truly stupid fools”, “thieves and robbers”, “lazy rogues”, “daily murderers”, and “vermin”, likens them to “gangrene”, and recommends that Jewish synagogues and schools be burned, their homes razed and destroyed, their writings confiscated, their rabbis forbidden to teach, their travel restricted, that lending money be outlawed for them, and that they be forced to earn their wages in farming.
Luther advised “[i]f we wish to wash our hands of the Jews’ blasphemy and not share in their guilt, we have to part company with them. They must be driven from our country” and “we must drive them out like mad dogs.”
So do we throw away the whole protestant movement because of Luther’s fallen nature? God forbid! We forgive him and move on. Now, Ellen White [early member of the SDA church] never made such hateful statements about other races yet people try and find “dirt” on her. There are videos about how terrible a Christian she was also.
What are you looking for? If you are looking for Truth you can find it. Jesus is not hiding under a rock someplace. As a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian I invite you to look at our teachings and compare them with Scripture. Read, pray, search the Scriptures for yourself. Stop looking for something to “hang your hat on”. Stand up, get serious about your relationship with Truth, the Christian Truth!

Here are three aspects of the 7th Day Sabbath. This fourth commandment was written by the “finger of God” in the Ten Commandments;
1.) The Seventh Day points us to the Creator. It point’s us back to the literal Creation [not evolution] of all things. The Sabbath was a literal day. Evolutionist’s try and say that the seven days of Genesis were not literal, thus they promote the lie of evolution. So accepting the 7th Day Sabbath as literal is to accept the Truth that God literally created all that is in 7 days.
2.) Second, the 7th Day Sabbath points to the fact of our positional “sanctification” in Jesus Christ. Most religions accept the morality of the rest of the nine commandments, but the 7th Day [fourth commandment] points to the only True God…He who literally created all that is.
3.) The 7th Day Sabbath points to the “spiritual” rest that we have in Jesus Christ. Thus, the three-fold aspect [meaning] of the 7th Day Sabbath is very important to true Christians.

I have heard some people say to me, “I have been a ‘born again’ Christian for 27 years!” Then I look at how they live, how they talk [the subject matter], and how they react to those around them.
One person told me that he had been saved for many years but he stopped going to church. He was listening to a rock song. The song was glorifying secular relationships and the ‘wild life’ living. So, does it really matter?
Jesus tell’s us to put away the things of this world and those things that have lead others into drugs, sexual relationships of all kinds, and many other sinful habits.
If two people in a room talked gossip, listened to worldly Rock music, smoked, drank liquor, cussed, and laughed at sexual jokes…which one would be representing Christ? Neither!
What is my point? As a Seventh Day Adventist Christian I have been accused of believing that “good works” can save me because I choose to obey God’s Sabbath, or talk different, eat different, or talk about Jesus when ever I get the chance. Does this mean I believe that my “good works” save me? No! It simply means that Christ is changing my life since I accepted Him as my Saviour and LORD. Jesus said;
“My Sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me . . .” John 10:27
Many want a Saviour but not a Lord. Nobody want’s to be told how to live. Many caught in the pride of what this generation has taught want the fast way, the easy way. They do not understand that Christian growth is an on-going process. Jesus is the Saviour of all true Christians but He is also the Master, King, and Law giver of all true Christians. Jesus wants not only to be your Saviour but He also wants to change your life. But will you let Him?
The problem with Christianity today is that it doesn’t teach nor understand the process of spiritual growth, maturity, true sanctification. What passes for Christianity is instead a diluted substitute. Where are the truly reformed lives? We live in the Laodicean period of the Church.
I have witnessed young girls dressing with low cut jeans that have holes in them expossing parts that should not be seen. Half shirts which show way too much. If Jesus invited you to dinner, would you wear such attire? Christians, please listen!
True Christianity involves a change in lifestyle!
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (NIV)
1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. (NIV)
Romans 1:25-27 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator– who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. (NIV)
So we can ask ourselves as Christians: “Am I changing? Have I changed since becoming a follower of Jesus Christ?” Now, some might say to me; “Your judging. We are not supposed to judge.” And this is true, we are not to judge by our personal standards. It is God’s Word that does the true judging and we as Christians are to point others who have wandered from God’s Word back to His Word with humilty and prayer. We lovingly plead with those who claim to be Christian but are not in the growing process of sanctification.
Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. (NIV)
James 5:19-20 My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins. (NIV)
Are you one who claims to be a ‘born again’ Christian? Then you are baptised, you read the Bible and pray daily, you attend church on Sabbath, and have fellowship with other believers. Right?
If not…what happened? Have you began to give up habits and attitudes that conflict with your Christian faith? This is living sanctification! This is the daily process of growing into Christian maturity.
I wrote this not out of anger but out of sadness towards the Laodicean condition of the Church. I too must stay close to the Saviour everyday and pray for areas in my life that need changing. One thing I do know, I am changed, I am changing, and I will yet be changed through and in Jesus Christ..through the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God the Father.
I pray the same for you

As a Christian Seventh Day Adventist I love the Lord, Jesus Christ. Therefore, I love Truth. Liars and false prophets, save they repent, shall not stand in the judgment.
Note: Since this article was posted I have received verbal and almost physical harassment from some JW’s in my community. Please pray for those stuck in the Watch Tower lies. Thank you
Failed prophecies of the Watchtower Society of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES CLAIM TO BE PROPHETS
The Watchtower of April 1st, 1972, page 197, had this statement, “So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them dangers and to declare things to come?…These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is the prophet?…This “prophet” was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible students. Today they are known as Jehovah’s Christian witnesses…Of course it is easy to say that this group acts as a “prophet” of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record. What does it show?
Since the J.W.’s claim to be God’s prophet, we are free to put them to the Bible test for a prophet, found in Deuteronomy 18:18-20. Verse 22 of this same chapter says, “When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD (YHWH), if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken.” Verse 20 plainly says, “that prophet shall die”.
False prophecy cannot be “explained away” and treated lightly. The Watchtower has invited us to examine their record, and we will! All quotes are from publications of the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society and available at headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. Some of these publications may also be found in local Kingdom Hall libraries. Judge this self-proclaimed “prophet” for yourselves!
6,000 YEARS OF HUMAN HISTORY OF PROPHECIES
6,000 years of human history ended in 1873. (The Time is at Hand, p.33). 6,000 years of human history ended in 1972. (The Truth Shall Make You Free, p. 152, 1943 edition). 6,000 years of human history ended in 1975. (Awake!, October 8th, 1968.)
Armageddon would end in 1914. (The Time is At Hand, Page 101, 1889 Edition). Armageddon would end in 1915. (The Time is At Hand, Page 101, 1915 Edition).
Today, J.W.’s expect Armageddon any minute!
THE RETURN OF CHRIST PROPHECIES
Since Christ failed to show up for any of the Watchtower dates, J.W.’s altered their teaching to make his coming conveniently “invisible”.
Christ returned in 1874. (The Finished Mystery, pages 386, 295, 1917 Edition). The Watchtower publications taught this 1874 date right up to 1929. The “Prophecy” book, published in 1929, states on page 65, “The Scriptural proof is that the second presence of the Lord Jesus Christ began in 1874 A.D.”
Christ returned in 1914. (The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life, p. 87).
THE MILLENNIUM PROPHECIES
The Millennium began in 1873. (Thy Kingdom Come, page 305). The Millennium began in 1874. (Finished Mystery, page 386).
PROPHECIES ON THE RESURRECTION
The resurrection would occur in 1878. (Thy Kingdom Come, page 234).
Abraham, Issac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old would return in 1925. (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, page 89).
The Watchtower Society even published a book telling their followers to add a room onto their houses, and get an undertaker to decorate it. Undertakers, of course, would be looking for employment, since there would be no more deaths in 1926. When the room was completed, Watchtower devotees were to call up Jerusalem, where Abraham would have an office, and request that their parents be “awakened” from death. They would soon appear in the new room! (The Way to Paradise, pages 228, 229).
PROPHECIES ON SPACE TRAVEL
“Man cannot by airplane or rockets or other means get above the air envelope which is about our earthly globe…”(The Truth Shall Make you Free, p. 285, 1943 edition).
THE BOOK OF RUTH
The Book of Ruth is “not prophetical”. (Watchtower Reprints IV, p. 3110, Nov. 15, 1902). The Book of Ruth “is prophetic”. (Watchtower Book, “Preservation”, pages 169, 175, 176).
PROPHECIES ON SODOM AND GOMORRAH
Sodom and Gomorrah will receive a second opportunity. (Man of Ages, page 110).
Sodom and Gomorrah will receive no second opportunity. (Watchtower, March 1965, p. 139).
THE “HIGHER POWERS” OF ROMANS 13:1
“Higher Powers” refers to earthly governments. (The Time is at Hand (1889) p. 81).
“Higher Powers” refers to Jehovah God and Jesus. (The Truth Shall Make You Free, p. 312).
“Higher Powers” refers to earthly governments. (Man’s Salvation…at Hand p. 326). Notice how the “brighter light” dimmed back again!
THE REVELATION NAME “ABADDON-APOLLYON”
Refers to Satan. (Studies in the Scriptures, Vol.7). Refers to Jesus Christ. (Then is Finished the Mystery of God, Page 232). Quite a change!
THE “ALPHA AND OMEGA” OF REVELATION
Refers to Jehovah God. (Awake! August 22, 1978, page 28). Refers to Jesus Christ. (Watchtower, October 1, 1978, p.15).
Notice the rapid change of “truth” and “interpretation of scripture” in just two months!
THE FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE
Refers to their founder, Charles Taze Russell. (Watchtowers from Dec. 1, 1916 to March 1, 1923, p. 68).
Refers to the “Remnant of Spiritual Israelites” (the supposed remnant of the 144,000 “heavenly class”). (From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained, page 193).
Although the official publication of the Jehovah’s Witnesses claims, “…Jehovah’s Witnesses today make their declaration of the good news of the kingdom under angelic direction and support” according to the Watchtower of April 1, 1972, page 200, they have proved to be an embarrassment to the angels!
Undaunted, the Watchtower of July 1st, 1973, page 402, goes on to claim, “Consider too, the fact that Jehovah’s organization alone in all the earth is directed by God’s holy spirit or active force.”
Obviously the Holy Spirit did not prompt these false prophecies!
Not only does the Bible give us a simple test for prophets, which we considered at the beginning of this tract, namely that their prophecies will fail, but the word of God has more to say about prophecies and prophesying.
The Bible reveals three sources for prophecy. One, it is from God, and inspired by Him. Two, it is from the Devil and inspired by him. Thirdly, prophecies can come out of “the flesh”, or out of our “own spirit”.
Since the Watchtower Society of Jehovah’s witnesses has so many failed prophecies, we know they are not prophesying by God’s direction, and through His Holy Spirit, or by the angels.
This leaves us with two alternatives for the false prophecies of the Watchtower Society. They are from Satan, or they are from “the flesh”.
The Watchtower has chosen the latter, claiming that “we all make mistakes” etc. “We have new light”. Is this an “out” for them? No, for Jehovah’s Witnesses should carefully read Ezekiel, chapter 13. This chapter is a judgment of God on prophets who hope for a fulfillment of their words, after prophesying falsely. Verse 8, says, “Because you have spoken falsehood and seen a lie, therefore, behold, I am against you”, declared the Lord God.”
The Watchtower Society of Jehovah’s Witnesses is a proven false prophet, and the Lord, by His own decree, is against them.

How responsible am I for the acts of others? As Christians we are to set an example to those around us and collectively to the world. What kind of example? One of “perfection of character”. Jesus Christ is our example setter. Does this mean we are to be perfect in the sense that we, on our own strength, become sinless? God forbid!
Perfection of character involves calling sin, SIN! When we make a mistake we need to address it. Both presumptuous [ignorant] and conscious sin,…t’is still sin. But what if we have hurt others in the past during one of our “backslidden” conditions? We should try and make amends the Biblical way.
Matthew 6:14-15 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your Heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
Jesus also instructs fellow believers to go to the person that they have issue with and address the issue one on one. If it is still not resolved he is to take with him another Christian that the witness of right doing has been addressed. But some circumstances do not always allow for this. But we should make the effort.
Some further counsel given to us by our Lord is:
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” — Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:23,24)
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”– Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:12)
We should make direct amends to people we have directly hurt except when to do so would just create more problems. Always we should pray for those we have hurt and ask God to heal them from the harm we have caused.
If another person has said something to hurt us we should forgive him wether he asks for forgiveness or not. And we certainly, as Christians, should not take revenge on such an one by telling others about his character defects. We all have said and done things to hurt others. We could in no way go back to every person we have hurt and personally address the issues. But we can ask God to do those things which we cannot.
We are to “love our enemies”. This is a challenge. If we truly realize our own sinfulness we will be less judgmental of those around us. Personal inventory is key to spiritual maturity.
Christian author Ellen White has said; “The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to His perfect nature. This is evidence that Satan’s delusions have lost their power; that the vivifying influence of the Spirit of God is arousing you.” SC.065.001
If you have been devastated by an act of hatred or evil against you, you may not want to hear this now. But, it is in your best interest to pay close attention here. Think of something you did in your own past that hurt another. Perhaps something you said or did. Is it possible for you to find him and say; “Please forgive me for such and such.”?
And even if you ask this person to forgive you and he refuses your forgiveness….you have done your part. If the person in question has been someone that relationalship battles have continued with perhaps it’s time to leave him alone. In some situations, no communication is necessary or not possible between the two of you. You will be directed as to which course to take in any situation by the presence of the Holy Spirit living in you.
Now on the other hand, if we have been hurt personally by another, even another Christian, and we feel that he has not addressed the issue of forgiveness with us, are we to start telling others all the character defects we believe that the person has? God forbid!
Gossip can be bred out of the need for self-justification. It may start as a simple conversation about people, and then escalates quickly. The Bible clearly tells us to do more than discuss other people’s lives.
Leviticus 19:16 – “Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbor’s life. I am the Lord.”
Proverbs 11:13 – “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.”
Romans 1:29 – “They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips.”
1 Timothy 5:13 – “Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to.”
Matthew 7:1 – “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.”
Proverbs 18:8 – “The words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to a man’s inmost parts.”
We are not to dwell on past mistakes or tell others about all our problems. Listen to what Christian author Ellen G. White says regarding this issue;
“It is not wise to gather together all the unpleasant recollections of a past life,–its iniquities and disappointments,–to talk over them and mourn over them until we are overwhelmed with discouragement. A discouraged soul is filled with darkness, shutting out the light of God from his own soul and casting a shadow upon the pathway of others.” SC.118.001
I truly believe that if we focus more on our own character development, and personal issues of reform, we will be ready to follow the counsel of Jesus Christ regarding these very important issues involving forgiveness. I can say that I ask Jesus to forgive me everyday and to heal all those whom I have hurt by word of mouth, thought, or action.
May we as Christians trust that Jesus will do those things we cannot and heal the relationships where we are powerless.
In His precious name, Jesus Christ
